{"id":8862,"date":"2025-08-05T11:30:00","date_gmt":"2025-08-05T11:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp26.cmswebdeveloper.com\/asian-news\/knife-crime-falls-in-west-midlands-as-ronans-law-comes-into-force\/"},"modified":"2025-08-05T11:30:00","modified_gmt":"2025-08-05T11:30:00","slug":"knife-crime-falls-in-west-midlands-as-ronans-law-comes-into-force","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wp26.cmswebdeveloper.com\/asian-news\/knife-crime-falls-in-west-midlands-as-ronans-law-comes-into-force\/","title":{"rendered":"Knife crime falls in West Midlands as Ronan&#8217;s Law comes into force"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.asianexpress.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Pooja-Kanda-with-her-son-Ronan-family-hand-out_25-1024x576.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-52202\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Pooja Kanda with her son Ronan, who was stabbed to death<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Knife crime in the West Midlands has fallen significantly following targeted police action and new legislation aimed at tackling violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">West Midlands Police (WMP) reported a 25% drop in knife-enabled robberies since October 2024, with serious youth violence offences down 18% over the past year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fall comes as \u201cRonan\u2019s Law\u201d &#8211; banning ninja swords, officially takes effect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The law is named in memory of 16-year-old Ronan Kanda, who was fatally stabbed in a case of mistaken identity in Wolverhampton in June 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His mother, Pooja Kanda, campaigned for the legislation following his death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Between April 2025 and early August, the force recorded 102 knife-related offences involving under-25s, down from 120 in the same period last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">WMP said this reflects a wider trend following focused patrols in crime hotspots and increased educational outreach to young people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The reduction follows the launch of a national taskforce across seven police forces last October. While the West Midlands saw the largest decline, the average drop across all areas was 6%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chief Constable Craig Guildford described the fall as \u201cimpressive\u201d but warned that a \u201chuge amount of work\u201d is still needed, both by police and the wider community.<br>The region had previously recorded the highest knife crime rate in England and Wales in July 2024, but has since seen increased arrests and a 6% fall in reported offences by May this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The force says it remains committed to making the West Midlands safer and is continuing enforcement efforts alongside education and community engagement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Knife crime in the West Midlands has fallen significantly following targeted police action and new legislation aimed at tackling violence.
