{"id":8630,"date":"2024-09-18T13:30:00","date_gmt":"2024-09-18T13:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp26.cmswebdeveloper.com\/asian-news\/from-birmingham-to-bradford-midlands-based-street-artist-creates-32-foot-mural-for-yorkshire\/"},"modified":"2024-09-18T13:30:00","modified_gmt":"2024-09-18T13:30:00","slug":"from-birmingham-to-bradford-midlands-based-street-artist-creates-32-foot-mural-for-yorkshire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wp26.cmswebdeveloper.com\/asian-news\/from-birmingham-to-bradford-midlands-based-street-artist-creates-32-foot-mural-for-yorkshire\/","title":{"rendered":"From Birmingham to Bradford: Midlands-based street artist creates 32-foot mural for Yorkshire"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.asianexpress.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Artist-with-Mural-5_24-jpg.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-50729\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Birmingham street artist &#8211; Mohammed Ali &#8216;Aerosol&#8217;, has created a 32ft \u2018Fuelling Futures\u2019 mural to inspire young people in Bradford<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>If you drive into Manningham Lane, you\u2019re in for a BIG surprise!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2018Neon Intermission&#8217; a 32-foot mural commissioned by Bradford community arts and culture organisation \u2018The Leap\u2019, and created by Birmingham-based street artist Mohammed Ali &#8216;Aerosol&#8217;, is greeting motorists and pedestrians passing the historic Connaught Rooms building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The street art depicts a young Muslim woman taking an intermission to read whilst she leans against her car, with a part of Bradford&#8217;s cityscape reflected in a wing mirror.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The mural, along with several other pieces of public art, is part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.the-leap.org.uk\/programmes-1\/fuelling-futures-ff-events\">The Leap&#8217;s Fuelling Futures<\/a> campaign, a partnership with Mission 44,\u00a0Bradford College\u00a0and Bradford Council, alongside a wide range of businesses in the motor industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The huge dreamscape style artwork, which the artists said was partly inspired stylistically by the Blade Runner films, is thought to be the largest piece of outdoor art in Bradford.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Ali spent a year creating it in his Birmingham studio in several different pieces, which have now been installed with the help of a crane.\u2028\u2028 For the artist himself, it\u2019s all about empowering and inspiring young people to dream big. He said his desire &#8220;was to paint some messages that are about uplifting young people and the next generation, and trying to equip them with skills and the ability to alter their futures, their trajectory&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He added: \u201cA lot of my work is around social justice and\u00a0 values that are about\u00a0 trying to uplift communities and bring people together. So the concept inspired me &#8211; using the arts on this big, bold scale on a giant building which you can&#8217;t miss and you can see from afar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI&#8217;ve got a long history in Bradford, I love the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFor me, this is like my gift to plant into the Bradford landscape as a big bold mural that speaks to the everyday people in a very accessible way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFor me, taking art to everyday people is really one of my missions, and the organisations I&#8217;m aligned with, I think we&#8217;re totally on that same page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere&#8217;s no better medium really of taking art into the everyday more than street art. It is such an amazing way of letting art spill out onto the streets and reach people that it wouldn&#8217;t reach in a fancy gallery.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Ali also hopes the mural will fuel further interest in people creating street art, and help it play a part in Bradford\u2019s upcoming year as <a href=\"https:\/\/bradford2025.co.uk\">UK City of Culture<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTaking art into the streets like this at this important time, where the nation will be seeing what&#8217;s coming out of Bradford, I think it\u2019s really timely and important to have,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Ali was invited by Bradford community arts organisation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.the-leap.org.uk\">The Leap<\/a> to paint the mural as part of its Fuelling Futures campaign in partnership with Mission 44, which is Sir Lewis Hamilton&#8217;s charity. Its aim is to harness <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asianexpress.co.uk\/2023\/07\/revving-it-up-channeling-young-people-for-a-career-in-motorsports-with-a-little-help-from-lewis-hamilton\/\">Bradford&#8217;s well known car culture<\/a> to raise aspirations.\u2028\u2028<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.asianexpress.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/with-bradfords-Asma-Elbadawi-Visual-artisSpoken-word-Poet_24-jpg.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-50731\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Spoken word poet Asma Elbadawi is also a basketball player known for successfully campaigning to lift the ban on hijabs for women in sport<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also popping along to see it unveiled was visual artist and spoken work poet Asma Elbadawi, who is also a basketball player known for successfully campaigning to get a ban on hijabs for women partaking in the sport lifted. \u2028\u2028She said she hoped the powerful image of a girl in a headscarf would inspire other girls and young people to follow their dreams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI think it\u2019s amazing. I\u2019m dyslexic, I have my own way of communicating, mostly through art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSomething like this, that has such a strong message that can be seen by people driving by and walking by, is pretty amazing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHaving messages likes this like across different areas in Bradford, but especially here on such a busy road, is really good for people to see.
