{"id":8105,"date":"2023-03-24T11:25:00","date_gmt":"2023-03-24T11:25:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp26.cmswebdeveloper.com\/asian-news\/police-officer-why-dont-you-go-back-to-your-own-country\/"},"modified":"2023-03-24T11:25:00","modified_gmt":"2023-03-24T11:25:00","slug":"police-officer-why-dont-you-go-back-to-your-own-country","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wp26.cmswebdeveloper.com\/asian-news\/police-officer-why-dont-you-go-back-to-your-own-country\/","title":{"rendered":"POLICE OFFICER: \u201cWhy don\u2019t you go back to your own country?\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.asianexpress.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/police-misconduct-hearing_23-1024x496.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-46728\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-white-color has-black-background-color has-text-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Police officer dismissed for discriminatory comments and behaviour<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A police constable has been dismissed without notice after an investigation by professional standards officers found he acted in a discriminatory and disrespectful way to Black officers on his team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The investigation into PC Toby Caswell\u2019s actions began after concerned colleagues reported his behaviour through the Met\u2019s existing misconduct reporting channels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A misconduct panel heard that PC Caswell used language and acted in a manner that belittled, mocked and humiliated officers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Between 2019 and 2021 he was alleged to have made discriminatory comments and asked a colleague \u201cwhy don\u2019t you go back to your own country?\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The panel also heard evidence PC Caswell sprayed disinfectant on the front of one of the PC\u2019s trousers and deliberately called a PC&#8217;s phone at inappropriate times such as during briefings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The misconduct panel, which concluded on 22 March and was chaired by an independent legally qualified chair, found PC Caswell breached the police standards of professional behaviour in respect of equality and diversity, authority, respect and courtesy and discreditable conduct.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Panel found gross misconduct proven and PC Caswell was dismissed without notice.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chief Superintendent Andy Carter, responsible for policing Camden and Islington at Central North Command Unit, said: &#8220;PC Caswell&#8217;s behaviour towards his three fellow officers was appalling and he has quite rightly been dismissed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI am very sorry that his colleagues had to endure this behaviour and I welcome the fact that multiple officers reported PC Caswell&#8217;s conduct so swift action could be taken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEveryone in the Met is clearer than ever that we must root out those who corrupt the integrity of our organisation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-white-color has-black-background-color has-text-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>PC Caswell will now be added to the Barred List held by the College of Policing.
