{"id":7919,"date":"2022-09-02T08:02:00","date_gmt":"2022-09-02T08:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp26.cmswebdeveloper.com\/asian-news\/ready-set-go-yorkshires-prolific-fundraiser-takes-on-the-great-north-run\/"},"modified":"2022-09-02T08:02:00","modified_gmt":"2022-09-02T08:02:00","slug":"ready-set-go-yorkshires-prolific-fundraiser-takes-on-the-great-north-run","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wp26.cmswebdeveloper.com\/asian-news\/ready-set-go-yorkshires-prolific-fundraiser-takes-on-the-great-north-run\/","title":{"rendered":"READY SET GO&#8230; Yorkshire\u2019s prolific fundraiser takes on the Great North Run"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.asianexpress.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Great-North-Run-2021_22-638x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-45415\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The dedicated runner from Yorkshire who gobbles up the road miles for charity is all set to take on the Great North Run in Newcastle in a bid to raise over \u00a312,000 for food parcels in Uganda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">School career\u2019s advisor, Nazim Ali, is no stranger to fundraising, has raised well over half a million pounds for humanitarian causes both in Britain and abroad by taking up running challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Sunday 11th September, Nazim AKA \u2018Ramadan Runner\u2019 (a title acquired for his famous fundraising runs while fasting), at his own expense, will attempt the Great North Run\u2019s half marathon (13.1 miles). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His mission this time is to raise monies do he can provide hundreds of food parcels carrying a month\u2019s supply of essentials for survival to the most destitute families in Uganda, Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.asianexpress.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Uganda-Poverty-2_22-1024x767.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-45416\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nazim explains why he\u2019s so passionate about delivering aid in Uganda: \u201c41 per cent of Uganda\u2019s population lives below the poverty line. It is amongst the poorest nations in the world with 75% of the 48 million population living in rural areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe Covid-19 pandemic has exacerbated the poverty in Uganda. Many live in straw-roofed mud-built homes which have no electricity, water or sanitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAt least 20 million people don\u2019t even have access to clean water, with much of Uganda is open water and swampland, deeming it undrinkable. This gives rise to water borne diseases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFor the Great North Run, I\u2019m covering all the associated costs (race fee, hotel, travel and food) so that 100 per cent of donations go to the stated cause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThen, God willing, in two-months time &#8211; from 24th October to 31st October 2022, I will be going on a wholly self-funded humanitarian aid trip to Uganda with the team from the \u2018Hope for Mankind\u2019 charity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI am hoping to raise at least \u00a312,000 to provide 300 food parcels costing \u00a340 each (Zakat applicable), which will last a poor family of five for at least one month. Each food parcel will contain at least 20kg flour, oil, 10kg rice, tea, sugar, tinned foods, lentils, breads and milk powder.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With this run in Newcastle, Nazim is hoping to cross the \u00a3600,000 fundraising mark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He\u2019s hoping to also open water wells, provide community meals, sweets for children, clothes for orphans and the poor.
